Standard Applicability:This document describes the security risks of DHCPv6 and expands on them by proposing two ways to improve security, client authentication, which improves the server’s ability to withstand attacks such as spoofing, and encryption of communication between the server and client. This document specifies Encrypted-Query, Encrypted-Response new DHCPv6 messages, and Certificate, Signatue, Increasing-number, Encrypted-message new DHCPv6 options for realizing DHCPv6’s authentication encryption process to improve DHCPv6 protocol security. This document applies to scenarios where user addresses are dynamically assigned in an IPv6 network.
