Standard Applicability:This document establishes basic safety and essential performance requirements for multiparameter patient monitors. This document applies to multiparameter patient monitors with two or more physiological monitoring units that are intended to be connected to a single patient and are intended for use within a specialized healthcare facility, as well as within an emergency medical services environment or a home care environment. This document does not apply to implantable components of multiparameter patient monitors. This document does not specify the requirements for separate physiological monitoring units, such as electrocardiogram (ECG), invasive pressure and pulse oximetry, the requirements for which are specified in the relevant specialized standards in terms of stand-alone medical electrical equipment.
