Standard Applicability:This standard specifies the terms and definitions, product classification, requirements and calibration methods for hydrophones in the frequency range of 0.5 MHz-10 MHz that use piezoelectric sensing elements to measure the pulsed or continuous wave ultrasonic field generated by medical ultrasound equipment in water. The hydrophone to which this standard applies is an underwater acoustic receiver of known sensitivity and with a high-frequency broadband frequency response. It consists of a piezoelectric sensing element in the form of a disc, an acoustic structural member, a housing, a cable and a plug. There are two main structural forms: pin-type and film-type.
