Standard Applicability:This standard specifies the test method for the laboratory to determine the resistance of protective clothing materials to liquid penetration under a certain pressure under continuous contact with liquids, such as protective clothing repeatedly exposed to splashing and spraying of liquids under pressure. Protective clothing “pass / fail” conclusion to determine the visual inspection of liquid penetration. This test method is commonly used to evaluate the protective effect of protective clothing materials and materials sampled from finished protective clothing. NOTE: Finished protective clothing includes gloves, sleeves, aprons, clothing, hoods, boots, etc. “Finished product sampling” includes both the complete part of the finished protective clothing as well as seams and other discontinuities. This test can be used to determine the material of the protective clothing. This test can be used to determine the limits of exposure of protective clothing materials and structures to hazardous liquid chemicals in different environments. This test is particularly useful for determining the liquid resistance of microporous fabrics. The penetration test is satisfactory, but a significant amount of material penetration of the sample may occur. The more sensitive penetration assay should be performed according to ISO 6529. When unpressurized liquids with lower test conditions are used, the test for resistance of materials to penetration is performed in accordance with ISO 6530. ISO 6530 Liquid challenge with relatively small volumes of liquid for short periods of time, this test is suitable for porous treatments and other non-membrane based or uncoated materials. This standard describes only the performance of materials used for protective clothing or some material constructions (e.g. stitching). It does not address the design, overall structure and components, or the interface of clothing or other factors that may affect the overall protective effect of protective clothing. It should be noted in particular that this standard does not have to simulate the possible exposure of protective clothing during actual use. The test data, due to material limitations, require an extensive comparative assessment of their resistance to liquid penetration.
